first post!... biscuit-y goodness

hello! :D ok so i'm a little new at this so bear with me here...

so... this is for all your broke college kids out there living off of Beefaroni and cup noodles... and anyone else in the same situation... you think you can't cook... i get it. no really i do. for a while, i couldn't even figure out how to make an egg. now, well.. i can feed myself as well as others... pretty well too if i do say so myself.. ANYWAYS. back to the actual topic here... YOU learning how to cook.

so i figure i'll start off with something relatively easy. see my picture? that picture with the giant cloud of whipped cream and yumminess? yeah. that is super simple. here look:

tools:
cookie sheet
small bowl
fork
basting brush
sharp knife
cutting board
medium bowl

ingredients:
1 can of flaky layer biscuits (buttermilk is yummiest)
1 egg
1 TBSP (tablespoon) of water
regular granulated sugar for sprinkling
1 can of whipped cream (or if you're feeling adventurous the recipe for your own is below)
2-3 washed peaches or kiwi or 1/2 a basket of washed strawberries or any kind of berry really...
1-2 tsp lemon juice
chocolate syrup

directions:
open the can of biscuits, but save the directions. you'll need those. lay the biscuits out on the cookie sheet, spaced evenly. crack the egg into the small bowl and add the water. beat together with a fork. brush the mixture over the top of each biscuit, lightly. don't make scrambled eggs on top of those things. that's a different recipe :D just make it shiny. sprinkle sugar over the top just to coat the top of the biscuits (about 1-2 tsp each) follow the baking directions on the package.

so while the biscuits are in the oven, get your fruit over to a cutting board and dice (for peaches and kiwi) or slice (for strawberries)and place into a bowl. sprinkle a little of the sugar over the top of the fruit and toss gently. drizzle the lemon juice over the top and let it sit and macerate while you get the biscuits out of the oven.

once the biscuits are out, LET THEM COOL TO ROOM TEMPERATURE. otherwise, you'll have a melty mess on your hands... once the biscuits are nice and cool, pull them apart somewhere toward the middle. it really doesn't have to be perfect. like a sandwich, squirt some whipped cream on the bottom "slice" of biscuit. spoon on some of your fruit. put the top back on the biscuit. it should be a little oozy. yum. then top with more whipped cream and fruit. drizzle the whole thing with chocolate sauce... or just squeeze it all over the top. TA-DA!!!!!!!! yummy easy fun stuff :D

so as promised:

super simple whipped cream recipe:

tools:
wire whisk or hand mixer or stand mixer with whisk attachment
a large mixing bowl
spoon

ingredients:
1 pint (or about 2 cups) of heavy cream
3-4 TBSP of powdered sugar (depends on your preference in sweetness)
1tsp of vanilla extract OR a shot of either brandy, Bailey's, Kahlua, or amaretto (which is BTW 2 TBSP)

directions:
mix all ingredients together. if using a hand or stand mixer, put on high until stiff peaks form (to figure out what kind of peak you have, stick your whisk or attachment in your cream, and pull it straight up and flip it over. if it flops over, soft peak, if it kinda curls, medium peak, if it stick straight up or doesn't even make a point, stiff peak) but do NOT over mix because you'll get butter. yuck.

if you're using a whisk... i hope you don't spend your day playing WOW or black ops because this involves a little bit of strength and elbow grease.

and that's it :D your very own whipped cream... btw... i use amaretto in mine.

well thank you for reading my very first blog post... i hope you have learned a little something from it... :D leave me some feed back (a picture of your very first biscuit-y goodness!!!) or questions or constructive criticism :D

keep cooking :D
